Do I have to be employed to get an apprenticeship?
Yes! To be an apprentice, you have to be employed a minimum of 30 hours per week. You need to also be on a PAYE scheme.

When are apprenticeship intakes?
We run two intakes per year: September and March/April. Numbers are capped at 12 for each cohort, we encourage you to register interest as soon as possible.

Can you help me find an apprentice?
Of course! We are more than happy to help your recruitment processes and can also include organising assessment days for organisations that would like to complete initial assessments before hiring an apprentice.

What are progress reviews?
Progress Reviews are a meeting which takes place every 10-12 weeks and will bring together, the employer, apprentice and Ignite to discuss progress and set targets. We will however be in contact more than this. We operate a red, amber, and green traffic light system of progress which is updated monthly and the employer always has access to progress.

Are parents/guardians informed of progress?
If the apprentice is aged 16 - 18 when they start, parents will be sent progress review updates and contacted if we have any concerns about the apprentice. We value parent support.

What if an apprentice cannot attend a workshop?
Attendance to workshops and punctuality is very important. If an apprentice can’t attend, arrangements will be made to organise a catch-up session. If we have not been made aware that an apprentice, will not be attending, the employer will be contacted by 9:15am as part of our safeguarding procedures.

Are there incentives for taking on an apprentice?
Yes! If you employ an apprentice between the ages of 16 - 18 years old, you will receive two instalments of £500.

Will the Gas Engineering apprenticeship lead to Gas Safe registration?
It will! The apprentice will need to develop a portfolio of evidence on-site with a Gas Safe mentor. Access to gas work must be available and at the required amounts, or the apprentice will be unable to progress to assessment.

Will Ignite need to complete onsite direct observations?
Yes, for the level 3 plumbing and heating apprenticeship. We will organise 6 visits across the first two years, to observe a range of different tasks.

What is an End Point Assessment?
Once the apprentice has completed all workshops, evidence and assessments. The employer and Ignite will agree if the apprentice is ready to progress to end point assessment (EPA). If yes, we will prepare the apprentice for a range of assessments, that will be completed by the end point assessor. Upon successful completion, the apprentice will receive their certificate from the Institute of Apprenticeships.

How is evidence collated?
All apprentices will be issued with a Chromebook when they start their apprenticeship. This will be used to support workshops, and collate on-site evidence, CPD and provide important reference material. Our coaches can continuously monitor progress an provide feedback. We believe this is a smart and much more efficient way of working and improves digital skills.
